The financial technology company SmartAsset named Gig Harbor as the Best Place in Washington to retire and the fourth best place to retire in the country. When making their selection they look at affordability, the city's tax burden, number of medical centers per 1000 residents (11.5), recreation centers, and retirement communities.
Gig Harbor has a thriving retiree population due to many and varied housing options and plenty of activities to keep you busy year-round. However, if you get tired of the relative peace and quiet here, the bright lights and quickened pace of Seattle and Tacoma are just across the water. Or the beautiful coastal communities and mountainous national parks make a perfect day or weekend trip.
